The TeamLaura Stott

Laura Stott | Osteopath

I am a qualified GOsC registered Osteopath currently practising in Colchester and Ipswich.

I have had valuable experience working in large multidisciplinary private health care practices in Colchester and Southern Ireland. In Colchester I work within the popular Topnotch Health Club on Severalls Industrial Estate alongside Physiotherapists, Personal Trainers and other therapists.

I also work in Colchesters Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic which has been established for 30 years with an outstanding reputation. In Ipswich I work as the sole Osteopath within a studio gym, Refresh Fitness with exercise rehabilitation and nutrition experts, strength and conditioning coach and personal trainers.

Due to this I have acquired valuable experience in the treatment of sports injuries. Whilst working in Colchester and Ireland a considerable percentage of my patients were sports people (amateur and professional) children, babies and pre or post natal women therefore I have good experience treating conditions related to these groups. Another large proportion of my patient base is those who suffer from back pain, work related injuries and elderly patients.Laura Stott

I trained over four years to be an Osteopath at the European School of Osteopathy (ESO). I graduated from the ESO with a 2.1 BSc (Hons) Ost DO degree. I registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and then gained valuable post graduate experience by working in a large, busy Osteopathic practice in Colchester amongst an excellent team of Osteopaths, Massage Therapists and Exercise Rehabilitation Specialists. During this time I regularly observed other Osteopaths within the practice and participated in frequent continued professional development (CPD) workshops organised within the practice. Including participating in two marketing and awareness events titled Osteopathy and Pregnancy and Osteopathy for Infants and Children held by the National Childbirth Trust (NCT).

In January 2007 I was approached to work in a studio gym, Refresh Fitness in Ipswich, as a sole Osteopath alongside Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology (CHEK) Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Strength and Conditioning Coach and Personal Trainers. I built up my own client list through referrals and recommendations. In which I gained valuable knowledge in the treatment of sports injuries and of corrective and rehabilitation exercise.

In April 2008 I moved to West Cork in Ireland to work a six month locum contract within a busy multidisciplinary practice. Whilst there I gained experience treating surfing and Irish hurling related sports injuries as well as many children, babies and maternity patients.

In September 2008 I took part in a voluntary humanitarian aid project for two weeks in Kenya with the charity organization Divinity Foundation. We treated women and children in two Sikh hospitals in Nairobi and Makindu, within an orphanage in the Kibera slums, and our final 5 days were spent in the East Pokot desert region treating within the tribes. I was working alongside five to eight Osteopaths, Kenyan doctors, nurses and translators who taught me many things about the culture, tropical diseases, HIV/AIDS, malnutrition, medical screening, diagnosis and medications. I attained firsthand experience on how Osteopathy can be used to not only treat musculoskeletal complaints but also to alleviate pathological symptoms.

I enjoy treating a diverse patient base utilizing a variety of techniques best suited to the individual patient. I am also qualified in and practice cranial osteopathy. I have particular experience and speciality in sports injuries, paediatrics and work related injuries. I have a keen interest in exercise, nutrition and lifestyle advice to allow the patient to regain optimum health and well being.

My passions include sport and fitness, dance and singing. I attended dance classes for ten years, achieving Grades in Ballet, Tap and Modern, regularly competing in Dance Competitions and dancing or singing in performances. I enjoy racquet sports and I relish learning new sports or activities. For example earlier this year I attended a ten week beginner’s life drawing course to explore my artistic side. Whilst in Ireland I found a passion for surfing and running, now back in the UK I regularly run and compete as a member of the Colchester Harriers Athletic Club, however surf is harder to find!
